Type: Teaching & Education, Working with children,
The Teaching English project aims to provide English speakers to assist teachers in schools to help improve conversational English in the community of San Ramon. You will work in public elementary schools during the day and with students of various ages in the Adult Community Classes in the evenings. Speaking English is a national priority in Costa Rica and consequently the demand for English speakers is high.
Most Costa Rican schools have English teachers, but many of these teachers are non-native speakers, so students learn English throughout school but leave school without being able to speak English. As a participant on this project your role will be to assist the English teacher in their regular classes. You will help mainly with conversational skills, pronunciation, everyday language use and vocabulary. You will work with students of grade 1 to 6.
These classes are free for all adults interested in learning English and the ages of the students range from 16 to 50+. Classrooms are donated by the community to the project so the classes are held in a variety of locations in town but mainly in our volunteer dorm. The format of the classes is that of an English Club.
