"You can breakfast in the mountains, lunch in the cloud forest, and enjoy the beach, all in one day". Ecuador, the second smallest country in South America tucked in between Colombia and Peru, occupies a mere 0.19% of the planet´s continental mass yet is one of the world´s most megadiverse countries. It hosts 18% of the world´s bird species, over 4,500 species of orchids, and 10% of the world´s plants.
A peaceful, democratic nation of 12 million people, Ecuador is the ideal country in which to experience Latin American culture. It is a multi-ethnic and multicultural nation with over 14 indigenous groups living on the mainland, maintaining their own traditions and ways of life.
In spite of its substantial oil resources and rich agricultural areas, over 70% of the Ecuadorian population lives below the poverty line. Join one of our community service projects in Quito or in rural Ecuador, and give yourself the opportunity contribute to the lives of the underprivileged and the protection of the environment.
In Ecuador we've established close partnerships with a number of local NGOs and foundations. Available host projects reflect changing needs and priorities and may vary from those shown. After you apply, we work closely with your Sending Country and our Host project oganizations to find an appropriate placement that best matches your skills, preferences and capabilities.
During your orientation and language-training period in Ecuador, you'll visit several on-going projects and then together we'll select a placement that best matches your preferences and capabilities. You will also be able to read reports of former volunteers about some of these projects.
