Raleigh International is a sustainable development charity. We challenge and inspire young volunteers from around the world to work with communities living in poverty. Our programmes focus on providing access to safe water and sanitation and protecting vulnerable environments. We operate in Borneo, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, India and Tanzania.

Since our foundation as a charity in 1984, Raleigh volunteers have become a global community of more than 38,000 people committed to building a sustainable future.

Raleigh are currently recruiting volunteers for our programmes in Borneo, Costa Rica & Nicaragua and Tanzania. If you are aged between 17-24 years you can apply to be a venturer or if between 25-75 a volunteer manager. Our dedicated team of volunteer managers help us facilitate the running of our programmes in country and ensure we deliver our sustainable development projects.

There are a number of different volunteer manager roles available creating a diverse and dynamic team on expedition, these include:

  • Logistics Coordinator
  • Photographer
  • Artist
  • Videographer
  • Communications Officer
  • Medic
  • Administrator
  • Project Manager
  • Spanish interpreter
  • Adventure Project Manager

Our volunteer managers can either go on expeditions 13 or 8 weeks in duration, whereas volunteers get a choice between 10, 7 or 5 week programmes. 

All our volunteers are expected to fundraise for Raleigh International, targets vary between the different roles but always cover food, accommodation, training and preparation, specialist equipment, in-country transport, and travel and medical insurance which excludes personal belongings cover.     Volunteer Project Managers needed for expeditions in Malaysian Borneo

    The Borneo rainforest is the oldest in the world. It is home to about 15,000 species of flowering plants, 3,000 species of trees, 221 species of mammals and 420 species of resident birds. It is a unique environment and one that needs conserving for future generations. Volunteer as a Project Manager this summer and help preserve Imbak Canyon, in Sabah- a class one protected rainforest.

    Volunteer on sanitation and safe water projects in Tanzania this summer

    Less than a third of the population in Tanzania have access to improved sanitation, with this figure much lower in rural areas. Poor sanitation and lack of access to clean drinking water is the leading killer of children below 5 in Tanzania. In 2014, Raleigh International would like to reach over 500 children in Tanzania, providing sanitation and water systems and raising awareness within families and communities. But we need your help to do this.

    Spend this summer supporting the conservation of one of the oldest rainforests in the world, home to thousands of species that are rapidly disappearing. You could also be supporting a team of young volunteers building Kindergartens in rural communities, giving them greater access to education.

    Join an expedition in Costa Rica & Nicaragua this summer

    Spend 8 or 13 weeks based on one of our community, environment or adventure projects in the lush surrounding of Costa Rica & Nicaragua. You could be helping to conserve the natural biodiversity of Costa Rica's national parks or in the far north of Nicaragua on a trek tackling the slopes of the Maribios volcano chain with spectacular views over Lake Managua before descending for a day's recuperation at a crater lake.
