Turkey has been the birthplace of many great civilizations and is located at a point where Asia, Africa and Europe are closest to each other. In Turkey you can see landscapes of incredible natural beauty and villages with architecture from Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman times. You will also find people in varying economic conditions, with many in need of basics - from adequate nutrition, to education and social services. Volunteers contribute to worthwhile causes while meeting new people, learning valuable work, life skills and becoming part of Turkish community life.
Founded in 1959, EIL-Turkey, the VIP local office in Turkey, has formed many partnerships with host organizations that are open to receiving volunteers. Available host projects vary due to time of the year and the needs and priorities of those associations. From a host projects, we look for a placement that best matches your preferences and capabilities. Volunteer projects are available in areas such as:
Your orientation program will cover basic information about customs, values and daily life in Turkey as well as tips about learning and living in a different culture. The participants will be informed about the different lifestyles, values, beliefs of people s/he will encounter during the volunteer community service. In addition, the Project orientation will be covered during visiting the Project site.
Excursions during the orientation: There will be a guided tour in the parts of the old city known as Constantinople. Blue Mosque, Saint Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Grand Bazaar, Golden Horn and Spice Bazaar will be visited during these tours.
