At the Wildlife rehabilitation clinic I was asked to look after a young cheetah that was orphaned. I would bottle-feed him. We placed a satellite-tracking device under his skin and when he got a little older we took him to the nature reserve to see how he adapted to the wild. After releasing him I was so sad but knew that I was doing the right thing. For 6 weeks we were able to track him in the Game Reserve and once I was even lucky enough to go up in a small helicopter and look for him. When we finally found him we were so happy to see that he was with another cheetah. This made me so happy and I knew then that the Wild at Heart Volunteer programs are much more than just seeing wildlife. These programs are about making a difference to conservation so that one-day my daughter can come to Africa and enjoy the wildlife.
Thank you Wild at Heart for the opportunity of a lifetime and for still keeping in contact with me and telling me how “Jabu” is doing.
