This incredible project is located in Ecuador on 60 hectares of privately-owned Amazon rainforest. In collaboration with the local Quichuan community, the animal sanctuary rescues and cares for illegally-held and mistreated wild animals. Many are the victims of animal trafficking and the sanctuary works in conjunction with the Environmental Police (UPMA) to arrange placement of seized or surrendered animals.
As a volunteer with this project, you will help to provide care for many animals, including primates, wild cats, turtles and birds. Some of the animals you care for will able to be released back into the wild. Others will need to remain under permanent care at the centre and volunteers play a critical role in providing care and enrichment for these animals.
Project duties include feeding and watering of animals, cleaning of enclosures and developing ideas to enhance the lives of animals in permanent care.
