Animal care in Romania

Organisation: Projects Abroad

Country: Romania

Type: Environment & Wildlife Conservation

Animal care in Romania

In Romania, many bears are sadly still kept to entertain tourists. They are kept in appalling conditions, living in cramped cages and receiving little care or provisions.

Volunteers on this project will work at a sanctuary for rescued bears near the Carpathian Mountains, on the outskirts of Brasov. The sanctuary is hugely successful and increasing in size every year as more bears are rescued. The main aim of the sanctuary is to gradually introduce the rescued bears back into their natural environment.

Your day to day role as a volunteer involves preparing food, observing vaccinations and helping out with the general maintenance of the sanctuary.  You will also spend some of your time helping out at a local zoo and dog shelter.

You will live with a local host family during your time in Romania, allowing you to fully experience their fascinating culture.
