Pioneer Madagascar has been set up by Azafady, a registered UK-based charity (no. 107121) and Madagascar-based NGO. The programme focuses on integrated conservation and development initiatives which work closely with the Malagasy people. Each scheme lasts 10 weeks, starting in January, April, July and October. Places are limited and approximately 80% of the costs go directly to running the projects. Projects for the next year include censuses of lemurs and birds in fragmented forest areas, conservation of loggerhead turtles, palm mapping, regeneration studies, resource use studies, building wells, pharmacies & latrines, and promotion of sustainable livelihoods. Applicants must be over 18 years old. Though all related experience is an advantage, previous experience is not strictly required.
