In the past there was no alternative to the government`s policy of poisoning dogs and ignoring the critically sick and injured animals. Many people were very concerned about the dogs around their community but until recently, had no way of helping them. Now over 14,000 dogs have been treated in a successful spay, neuter and vaccination program that provides a very important, much needed service to the people and animals of Kathmandu. You too can be part of the solution, by volunteering in this busy shelter and animal hospital in Kathmandu. We recently opened a new project in Pokhara, a vibrant mountain community with some of the most spectacular vistas you will have the pleasure of seeing. While in Pokhara you will be working with a group who is also working relentlessly at helping reduce the street dog population. Spay and neuter clinics are just the beginning! You will also be able to participate in vaccine clinics. This group provides free rabies vaccines to dogs throughout the village and in the close by Tibetan refugee camps. You will have your choice to volunteer in Pokhara or Kathmandu after you apply. The details will be discussed during your interview with the volunteer coordinator.
