The Dolphin Institute, Hawaii, is actively involved in carrying out dolphin and whale studies, with an aim to contribute to our knowledge of dolphins and whales, by interacting one to one with dolphins, recording whale songs, photographing whales and recording their behaviour, working with whale research scientists etc.
They offer short term volunteer programmes for those interested in participating in one, two or four week intensive educational whale or dolphin teams. For these programmes, volunteers are expected to cover their participation costs. They also offer internships for University students wanting to study dolphin intelligence and cognition in behavioural lab settings. Interns work with senior researchers and graduate students. Interns should have at least two years University experience and are expected to work full time.
