This project is best suited for advanced medical & nursing students completing electives, practicums, or internships. Volunteers will only be allowed to perform procedures based on their previous experience. Pre-medical undergraduates are welcome to apply for this program as a unique opportunity to observe low-resource rural medicine & assist with administrative tasks. Dependent on prior experience and qualifications, volunteers may perform infant immunizations, deworming, fever control, sutures, pre- & post-natal care, and treatment of work-related injuries. The clinics also offer support for those suffering from lupus. Local health professionals at the clinics will decide what tasks are appropriate for your skill level. You may encounter minor ailments such as wounds that need cleaning, sores, and infections- but do not be surprised to find patients with diabetes, HIV, or other more serious issues.
Volunteers will enjoy modern accommodations in the NM Productions volunteer guesthouse and enjoy 3 meals a day with the family. You will share 3 meals a day, living space, and experiences with a kind and accepting Belizean family. You will be fully integrated in the family lifestyle and we encourage volunteers to participate in preparing meals and other family activities. Accommodations include 3 meals a day, tv & internet access, and a twin size bed in a private or shared room (depending on availability).
NM Productions tuition fees include accommodation, meals, hospital placement fees, local transportation. Volunteers can also opt to add an airport transfers and tours.
