The first and only centre of its kind in Laos, the LCTW rescues, rehabilitates, and releases wildlife caught up in the illegal wildlife trade and is actively involved in global conservation and education programmes. Laos is sadly a hotspot for the illegal wildlife trade in South East Asia; due to this and the scale of our project, all volunteers here make a direct impact to the wildlife in Laos. Volunteers are an essential part of our team, and get to be involved in the main part of our rehabilitation process- enrichment!
At the LWRC, we currently care for just under 500 animals of several species such as: Bears, Reptiles, Macaques, Hornbills, Gibbons, Slow Loris, Deer, Crocodiles, Leopard, Civets, Elephant, Binturongs, etc. Our husbandry and enrichment programme enables our volunteers to see how they directly impact and improve the lives of hundreds of animals every single day.
As a volunteer, you will work with a supervised team to perform tasks that include, but are not limited to:
– Feeding and cleaning up after our animals
– Creating daily enrichments for over 100 animals every day
– Building new enclosures for recently rescued animals
-Renovating enclosures to add enrichment and encourage natural behaviours
-Assisting with general maintenance around the centre
The LWRC itself is located approximately 90-minutes away from the capital city Vientiane. Volunteers are accommodated on-site in bungalows with shared bathrooms and are provided with 3 meals a day.
