Wilderness Experience in Botswana – Bushcraft and Survival Course

Organisation: Natucate

Country: Botswana

Type: Environment & Wildlife Conservation

Bushcraft and survival training in Southern Africa During the eight days of your wilderness training your guide will show you Botswana’s environment and teach you how to navigate in the bush as well as the most important survival skills. Another important part of the course is the identification of different tracks that you will find during the regular game walks or drives and that you can use to track those animals. Moreover if the season and hence the flood level is right, you will also go on excursions in a motor boat or in the traditional dug-out canoe mokoro. Within the week you will also experience an overnight stay in the African bush and sleep under the stunning night sky full of stars – the perfect opportunity to learn more about astronomy. But also the local geology, ecology and hydrology are topic of your learning experience which is important knowledge to add to your survival skills. Moreover your guide will teach you about the weather, the climate and the important things you need to know about the region of the Okavango Delta. Accommodation After your arrival in Maun you will be picked up by a stuff member who takes you to the camp that is situated in a private nature reserve south of the Okavango Delta. In the camp near the Qwapa River, every participant sleeps in their own dome tent of 3×3 meters unless you wish to be placed with another person. The tents are furnished with a camp bed, bedding as well as a bed-side table with a LED light. Moreover each tent is equipped with an en-suite bathroom consisting of a bush-toilet and a small bucket shower. There is also a porch with a stand-basin and seating accommodations. Meals will be served during the project and you can drink tap water, coffee and tea in the camp. If you want to drink something else, you can also buy other beverages. As there is no electricity in the camp, solar lights are used. If the generator is running, you can use the opportunity and charge your batteries. A satellite telephone can be used in case of emergency, as the reception is generally weak in the area. If you want to participate, you need to be at least 18 years old and have a profound knowledge of the English language. Furthermore a confirmation of your doctor that approves your good health and physical fitness is necessary, as you will go on long walks in the bush regularly. Other than that you only need to be nature-loving and motivated to learn about surviving in the African wilderness!
