Project Costs

The cost is in GB pounds sterling and for 8 weeks is £1550 and for 12 weeks it is £2230 (the 10 weeks project dates are being offered at the price of 8 weeks as they fall over Thanksgiving holiday period)  and this includes housing, transportation whilst on project, tools, workday shirts (uniform), tents, safety equipment, and food during project work days.

During off-work days (in between projects), you are responsible for your food costs – and shared kitchen is provided at the project base for preparing food.  Airport pickup and drop off is also included in the cost and is from SMF Sacramento Airport on your project start date at 18.00PM sharp and drop off is on the project end date.

The airfare to Sacramento, travel/medical insurance and personal expenses are not included within this price. It is mandatory for you to take out travel and medical insurance for the duration of the project.

To secure a placement on this project, you will need to complete and submit the online application form along with your application payment of £195 (included in the total project cost listed above). If for some reason, your application is not accepted, we will reimburse this payment fully. However, for those who are accepted, the remaining balance needs to be paid two months before departure. Once your place is confirmed, you will receive a pre-departure package with detailed information on getting to your project, suggested items to bring, details on the work you will be doing and so on.  We will also require you to fill out a medical questionnaire and also get your doctor to confirm your state of health and fitness.

Project Dates

Volunteers can join for 8 to 12 weeks. Volunteers come on the VWP (Visa Waiver program) and stay up to 12 weeks (90 days maximum).

Arrivals and departures include an orientation meeting, which can take about 5 hours to complete some paperwork and review all the important rules and safety policies. You then join your first project (known as a “hitch”) as soon as Monday. We would rotate crews on to several projects via 8 to 11-day “hitches”, so we can provide as much variety as possible.

Training is included during orientation, and as you start to visit different locations, there is specific training regarding the type of project, related tools, and safety procedures.

For the time being this programme is on hold – if you want to express interest in this programme for when it restarts, we can add you to our mailing list by emailing us here:   victoria.mcneil@workingabroad.com
