Food, Lodging & Travel
All volunteers live together at one of 3 volunteer guesthouses (see pictures to the right). They are two-story houses each with 6 shared bedrooms. Each bedroom either has two or three beds and a saroom en-suite. There is also a kitchen and clothes washer, a dining area, and a relaxation area with couches and a TV. The houses also have wifi internet. You will receive three Indian vegetarian meals a day; a cooked lunch & dinner which are provided to you at the project site or volunteer house, and breakfast which is provided on a self-serve basis at the house.
The 3 volunteer houses are all located close to each other in Astha City, which is a suburb of Agra about 45 minutes from the city centre. You will be transferred to the elephant or bear centres for your volunteering each morning by car and back again in the afternoon.
Travel
We recommend volunteers fly into Delhi International Airport. The project is located near Agra, about 3 hours drive from Delhi. Transportation from Delhi to the project when you arrive is not included, but we can assist you with arranging this at an extra cost. We recommend either booking a private transfer direct from Delhi, or taking the train to Agra and then a taxi to the project house. Once you have arrived to the project site all further transportation is included. Most volunteers will need to apply in advance online for a tourist visa.
Volunteer Requirements
Volunteers should be aged 18+ and speak English. No previous experience is required but you will need to be self-motivated and adaptable. A strong interest in conservation and wildlife is recommended. You will also need to be physically fit, able to tolerate high temperatures and humidity, work well within a team and be flexible to living and working in a group. We are also able to accept families with children aged 10+ for this project, here you can find out more about family volunteering abroad.
